facing. and think it sends a good message. >> remember, if you have your own hit or miss, please send it to us. be sure to follow us. that's it for this week's show. thanks for joining us. see you right here next week. on fox news watch -- >> any jackass can kick down a barn but it takes a good one to defend it. >> the media out in force to defend it and a hammer to defund a law they see as flawed. are they telling you all you need to know? bush 43 undergoes a successful heart procedure to help keep him healthy and active. some question the effort. why. egypt and chaos. is the situation there too complex for the u.s. media?
11:31am
>> i'm really sorry it got blown up. >> oprah tries to backpedal on her charge regarding the handbag saleswoman. is it too late? and a rodeo clown makes news and loses his clown for mocking mr. obama. how did the media react to this? >> on the panel this week rider and fox news contributor judy miller. jim bicker, fox news contributor allen combs. fox news watch is on right now. the american people really don't know what this law is all about. i've tried to figure it out. you know, you've tried to figure it out. you've worked on it every day and the president has.
11:32am
they change the law on the run which is utterly unconstitutional. >> mark levine talking with fox's kneel cavuto earlier this week about the complexities about confusion. that obama care is a mess. are they picking up on it? >> yeah. it reminds me of the catastrophic care act of 1988 which was repealed in 1989, but fortunately unline president bush 41, president obama has the media on his sign. that clip from chris cuomo was a pretty indicative thing. paul bremer at news busters documented a lot more of this. he's got a bodyguard around him. >> alan? >> look, the washingt"washingto has followed obama care. the fact is they've showed maps.
11:33am
this notion that the mainstream media, i.e. liberal media isn't doing its job is just not true and they have a whole thing about when it's going to be implemented. so the fact is that it's not been ignored and if you read enough media, you'll see what's going on. >> well, judy, there are a lot of reports that the costs are going to be much higher than the president has promised and the media generally seemed to ignore that. >> i think that's because the president himself has said there's going to be some implementation problems. these is a hugely ambitious and important program that if implemented well will do a lot to increase the health, improve the health of americans. the problem, it's all in the implementation. and as rich lowry said this week in news max, he said, who are you going to believe? the president's numbers or your lying insurance company. >> or right wing publications that he writes where he doesn't
11:34am
like the president to begin with? americans are going to start losing their doctors. the president promised just the opposite. i mean shouldn't that be covered? >> it should be, and he's made a variety of claims and there are some supporters of the law who's actually frustrated with the president for not being totally genuine with what's going to happen. he says that there's not going to be an increase in premiums and cohen says, of course, there's going to be an increase in premiums and that's a good thing. >> you know where it's going to cover it, new york, california, where is the media talk about those implemented exchanges reducing. it's the red state governors that refuse to participate. they're costing citizens more money. >> in other words, it's the republicans' fault. >> that's what's happening. it's a fact, not an opinion. >> well, rick, the president delayed another portion of the
11:35am
obama care. you know there was going to be a cap on it instituted. the president said, oh, well, we'll hold off on that. did that get the coverage that it should? >> no, it didn't. thing what we saw this week, and judy's right and did a really good job of pointing this is out is we have liberal journalists like susan page and jonathan chase who are beginning to say it's a big problem but they're trying to already blame the republicans for it. i think the republicans shoulder own it and say, yeah, we killed it and we're proud of it. >> one homogenous one that fits all, it's excessive, expensive, and attacks on the system. the "washington post," for example, ran an article cently trying to make the case of former president george w. bush and his heart procedure as a cent example.
11:36am
if mr. bush visited a general intern nift practicing sound-based care, he would not have had cardiac testing. what value does a stress test have for an otherwise healthy 67-year-old? no study has shown that this examination improvens outcomes. follow-up test, only necessary, because of the initial unnecessary screening tests are usually paid for by medicine. further stressing our health care system. he's commending the efforts of the former president's doctors. dr. siegel, a profoefrs medicine at new york university's lamedil center. >> physicians should not be speculating wildly about facts they don't have. doctors doing, that oncologists saying he should have a
11:37am
colonoscopy, not a stress test. in um number one, he was having some symptoms and one third of all heart attacks occur in people with atypical systmptoms like h was having. number two, someone vigorously exercising is a candidate for it. his diet in the white house wasn't the best. there was a pastry chef there. there were questions. the stress test showed abnormalities. they went ahead and did a cat scan. and, john, the kind of blockage he had was life threatening and all card jol yifts would agree. if they knew the position or severity that either a stent or surgery was in order for president bush. but you know something? you needed to know the facts to know that. >> the drker doctors who wrote that piece also claim thad the media coverage of interventions like mr. bush's also leads
11:38am
patients to pressure their own doctors for unwarranted and excessive care. do you think it does? >> no, not at all. in fact, what it does is just the opposite. articles like that lead us to move away from extremely important tests like stress defendants, extremely important interventions like that that are not always necessary. yes, they may be overdone sometimes but that's when there's a bad doctor. meshlg needs to know that when tests are appropriate, they should be done. they have this technology. i'm concerned that underobama care actually, things like this may not be done often enough. in this case it was needed and that's the lesson here. if you don't know the facts, don't speculate. >> dr. marc siegel, thank you. >> good to see you. >> jim, should we expect more media coverage touting the benefits of obama care? >> look. i think that's a fair case where they're so desperate to make obama care work according those projections. it's not going to cost a lot of
11:39am
money and so on, that they're willing to forfeit people's lives. >> what does it have to do with obama care or not. this has to do with weather the stent operation is necessary. that's the question. was it really necessary. >> next on news watch, are the media failing at covering events in egypt? clashes in egypt as the military crackdown on opposition adding more chaos in that country. is the situation there too challenging and complex for the u.s. press? answers next on "news watch." how do you do a summer clearance event the dodge way? first wait till summer. then get the cars ready. now add the dodge part. ♪ the dodge summer clearance event. right now get 0% financing for to 72 months

job. not all of them are accurate, but i think at the end of the day, you really need to be watching the reporters who are inside egypt, not the ones who are reporting from the united states. i don't think that they get it. jack merkinson who's the media critic for "the huffington post" wroetd a whole story this week about how the media might be targeted in egypt, which is a ridiculous claim. they're reporting from inside a violent area, so, you know, watch reporters who are inside egypt for a better handle on the situation. >> if this were president bush he'd be getting hammered for being detached in the middle of all this chaos, wouldn't he? >> he was in 2006 when the lebanese war erupted. they said this is a result of the president's die tachment from the peace process. but actually president obama is taking a little bit of heat from the right and the left. he did a pretty workman-like job of outlining the policy saying we condemn and deplore.

cnn's ashleigh banfield said it's a license to kill which was a gross exaggeration and it's indicative of the pressure that's coming under the president. >> judy, you know as much or more about what's going on in egypt than any of us at the table. have any of them taken sides? >> i think a lot of them have. a lot of them are looking at what happened around ta rears square. we were all that because we were toppling a dictator, but now a lot of reporters who are there, including richard engel who's a superb reporter normally, all the footage was about the crackdown on the poor muslim brotherhood, but there were no pictures of the poor muslim brotherhood attacking police, kill 45g of them, attacking 39 churches, burning people. mine this is a very ugly civil struggle and the president is right. we have to take some distance. i'm glad he didn't cut off aid
